Help plan a March of 1000 Mothers in Tottenham

Posted: January 29, 2013

No to benefit cuts! Yes to a decent income for all!

Planning meeting: 11am on Saturday 2nd February at the Book House Cafe – 410 High Road, Tottenham, N17 9JB

Plans have begun for a ‘march of 1000 mothers for a fair benefit income’ on the 23rd March, from 11:00-13:00.

Fathers are not excluded! However the organisers wish to make the point that it is mothers, including single mothers, whose pregnancy, child birth and nursing of babies is burdened with impossibly low incomes which are getting lower with the caps and cuts.

Many people will be cold, hungry and homeless from April when so many of the welfare reforms start to bite. Haringey has been chosen as one of the first boroughs to be hit.

Organisers are hoping that marchers will include families, children and babies in prams.

The plan would be to assemble somewhere south of the Tottenham Police Stations and march up the High Road to just north of Tottenham Hotspur football ground.

One steward for every fifty marchers will be required.

Join the meeting on the morning of Saturday 2nd February at 11am to make the necessary plans for a successful and peaceful march.
