Support the UCU strike at CoHENEL

Posted: March 23, 2011

The UCU at CONEL have today (22 March) received formal notice of redundancies (section 188).160 jobs are on the block: 70 FTE permanent posts, 90 fixed term (HPL) employees.

They are taking strike action on Thursday 24 March against cuts to pay and pensions, as well as protesting about cuts to jobs, cuts to courses, the abolition of EMA, the tripling of university tuition fees and cuts to education in general.

Please go along and support the UCU strikers on the picket line – even if it’s only for 20 minutes! And particularly from 7.30am to 1pm (Tottenham Centre, High Road N15 4RU). Bring banners, placards and noise-making instruments.

Meanwhile, in Lewisham, the Goldsmith’s administration building at Deptford’s old Town Hall has been occupied in support of the UCU Goldsmiths strike. Students occupied the building on Monday night in solidarity with the striking workers. There are also protesting against the marketisation of education.
