Weekly vigil in support of refugees at the National Hotel N10
Posted: March 12, 2024
📢 *Weekly vigil starting Friday 15 March 1.30pm-2.30pm in support of refugees at the National Hotel N10*
🌻Please assemble on the corner of Queens Ave/Muswell Hill Broadway N10 to show your solidarity with residents of the hotel.
➡️The Home Office plans to close the hotel in April, with no indication where or what type of accommodation residents will be transferred to.
🌻We will meet at the same time every Friday during this anxious time for residents, to show our welcome and support, and call for the hotel to remain open.
🌻Residents have put down roots and made friendships in our community and do not want to be moved. They simply want to be treated humanely and to get a fair hearing, after the difficult and traumatic experiences they have faced. We value them as part of our community and we want them to stay!
➡️The Home Office accommodation provider Clearsprings Ready Homes has a lucrative government contract and a very poor record of breaching safeguarding guidelines and dehumanising treatment of asylum seekers under their care.
➡️Residents of a Waltham Forest hotel run by Clearsprings were given 5 days’ notice and no details of where or what type of accommodation they’d be moved to. We can’t allow this to happen to our neighbours and fellow-residents!
*Clearsprings made £62m profit from this contract in January 2023, more than doubling the amount they made the previousyear.*
🌻We call for asylum accommodation to be brought back into communities and run by the public sector, on a humane and dignified basis, not for profit.
🌻Join our weekly vigil from Friday 15 March and show your support!
