On September 6th 200 people packed into the North London Community House in Tottenham for a public meeting organised by Haringey TUC. The meeting was hosted by Day-Mer, with speakers from a wide range of local trades unions and community organisations including: the Bakers Union, strikers from the RMT (London Underground workers), CWU (postal workers), barristers, NEU (teachers), UNISON (local government workers), Haringey Unite Community, Haringey Renters Union, Haringey Claimants Justice Campaign, Dont Pay UK, Northumberland Park food project, Stand Up To Racism, ACORN and Haringey Solidarity Group. Those organisations updated the meeting on what they do, why they are angry and fighting back against the Government’s austerity policies, and why they support wider solidarity and the new Network. Many of the contributions can be seen in the film of the event: https://fb.watch/fnvJby7f4C

The meeting expressed support for the national EnoughIsEnough campaign while agreeing to launch a new Haringey community action network. Steve Jones from the CWU was elected as the new network’s convenor and is planning a first ‘follow-up’ organising meeting (for reps of local organisations) on October 3rd. A range of ideas for how to organise an effective network were distributed to all in order to aid discussion at the follow-up meeting.

Many of the groups had stalls, and many had brought along their banners which were proudly displayed around the hall.
