*Subject:* Invitation - Greater London Authority invites you to register
sites for Cool Spaces - Summer 2021

Would you be able to pass onto any relevant groups?

Good morning,

As you may be aware, the Greater London Authority (GLA), in partnership
with Bloomberg Associates (BA) and others, is coordinating the*cool
spaces* phase 2 project.  This builds on phase 1 which saw the opening
of just outdoor cool spaces in the context of the COVID-19 lockdown

During the summer heatwaves, there is a need for cool spaces in the city
where the public can rest from the heat and cool down*. Cool Spaces* are
public or private spaces which are open to the public and designed to
provide the public, including those with no fixed abode and those with
little and or no adaptive facilities in their home, with a cool space to
retreat to from excessive heat.

The GLA is seeking to identify, establish and promote cool spaces in
London with a mapped network of indoor and outdoor cool spaces
accessible to all Londoners. It is looking to launch outdoor cool spaces
on 1^st  June 2021 and indoor cool spaces on 21^st  June 2021 (subject
to analysis of the data and the Government and Public Health England's
advice in the context of the easing of the current lockdown measures).

To help the GLA and partners identify and establish a cool spaces
network in London we are asking organisations to register suitable
sites. You can access the form here

Once organisations submit their registered sites, the Cool Spaces
Project Steering Group (PSG) will review submissions to establish a
network of cool spaces across the City. This may include establishing a
tiered system of sites of different types and characteristics. The GLA
may need to contact you further to discuss your submitted registered site.

Attached to this email please find:

·A summary explaining what a cool space constitutes.

The GLA is keen to have as many responses as possible to ensure we have
a spread of cool spaces registered in all of London’s boroughs. In
addition, by taking the time to register sites now, it will help the PSG
identify where further investment might be needed to improve and enhance
London’s network of cool spaces in the development of further phases.
So, please do get in touch by submitting your site/s online at:

If you would like to submit photographic images of your registered
sites/s, please send to the email address below.

If you and/or your members/networks have any queries, these can be sent
to: -

Should you be aware of other contacts / networks which may be able to
register cool spaces, please do forward on this email and supporting

Thanks very much in advance for your help.

On behalf of the GLA’s Cool Spaces PSG,

Kind regards,

Debra Chown  (she/her)
